I'm working at my sporting goods retailer and the full-time cashier comes in after switching shifts with one of the part-time cashiers. I'm at the register too and she writes down a name and a phone number on one of our business cards.
She says, "[John] from the backroom project wanted me to give you his number. So here it is."
So our cashier has only been with us for a little while, so I'm not sure if she knows that I'm gay and the million things that are passing through my mind right now. On top of that, I had only spoken with [John] for something like 5 minutes during a break many weeks ago. From what I remember, he certainly wasn't ugly, definitely a nice looking guy, nothing crazy.
So I tried to explore the question a bit more. I say, "[John] from the backroom project?" and the cashier says "Yah!" I'm trying to think of all sorts of reasons he wants me to call him other than "I find you attractive and we should go on a date sometime".
A boy has given me his phone number without solicitation. Apparently we had a "moment" in the backroom where we "connected". It's sad to say I don't remember a specific moment where we both might have been on the same wavelength, and random encounters like that are just so rare. It's terrible to go after the unwinnable (read:cashier with the smirk).
So now all I have to do is call him.
This is very exciting. I'm very excited.
Someone's going after me for a change. It's a lovely feeling.

I hope this leads to something delightful, but be ready for " You know so-and-so,right? Do you think s/he likes me?".
